EU begins to force new cars to install daytime running lights

Xinhuanet, Brussels, February 7 (Reporter Shang Jun) According to a new rule that will take effect on the 7th, all future European cars and minivans must have daytime running lights installed, and they have to turn on lights during the day to increase road safety.

Antonio Tayani, vice chairman of the European Commission responsible for industrial affairs, issued a statement on the same day that the installation of daytime driving lights will help reduce traffic accidents and at the same time be good news for the protection of the environment because of the use of special daytime trips. The lights are more energy-efficient than ordinary lights during the day.

In 2008, the European Union passed new regulations to force new cars to install daytime driving lights. Cars and minivans were implemented on February 7, 2011. Trucks and buses were implemented 18 months later, in August 2012.

The so-called daytime running light is a special kind of headlight that will automatically turn on when the car engine is started, regardless of day or night. After dark, the driver manually turns on the general lighting headlights, and the daytime driving lights automatically turn off.

Previously, some European countries had forced vehicles to turn on lights during the day to reduce traffic accidents. Since the vehicle does not have a daytime driving light, the driver can only open ordinary lights. The European Commission said that the energy consumption of driving lights during the day is only 25% to 30% of that of ordinary lights, so it is safe and environmentally friendly.
