Vaccines protect mice from brain tumors

Scientists have developed a vaccine that has successfully protected the brain of mice from tumors. This vaccine is used to attack abnormal cells by promoting immune system function. The vaccine has not yet been tested in humans, but clinical trials may begin in Germany next year.

The use of the immune system to attack cancer is a new treatment that is based on the natural immune response of some patients with brain tumors, although it is not sufficient to prevent tumor growth. Mouse experiments show that the vaccine can improve this natural immunity. Other researchers around the world are studying similar vaccines to stimulate the immune system to fight cancer. This is called immunotherapy and the United States is also testing it.
