This round of environmental protection for lead battery companies began in the middle of last year, when the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued the "Notice on Strengthening Pollution Prevention and Control of Lead Storage Battery and Recycled Lead Industry".
Cao Guoqing said that as of January 2 this year, there were 1,877 lead storage battery companies that had obtained production licenses. According to the figures released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as of March 22, only 315 companies were still producing.
However, the reduced number of companies did not result in a reduction in capacity. In the first quarter of this year, the lead battery industry's output increased by 17.4% year-on-year.
