MAN Diesel & Turbo China has recently launched its first TCR12 turbocharger, which is fully assembled at its Changzhou plant. This new development strengthens MAN Diesel & Turbo's strategy of localizing turbochargers in China.
In the past 20 years, China's shipbuilding industry has significantly increased its activity, making China the world's largest shipbuilding country for the first time in 2010. As China's leading manufacturer of marine diesel turbochargers, MAN Diesel & Turbo has been working on this development and established a factory in Shanghai in 2002, initially as an assembly shop for axial turbochargers. Subsequently, MAN gradually localized the production of parts. Finally, the assembly plant in Shanghai is too small. In 2011, the supercharger production plant moved to the current Changzhou plant.
Ralf Gro?hauser, senior vice president of MAN turbocharger business, stated that “China is strategically important to our turbocharger business. With the localization of TCR turbocharger production, we are able to support our production in Europe, Shorten the lead time and reduce transportation costs, which will benefit our Chinese customers."
