How to do lightning protection for wireless monitoring equipment during the thunderstorm season
In the hot summer sun, the frequency of thunderstorms gradually increases, actually starting from the first spring thunder every year. Wireless monitoring equipment has entered a critical lightning protection season. Fully lightning protection measures for the entire wireless monitoring system can effectively reduce the chance of wireless devices being impacted.
So why should the wireless video transmission equipment do lightning protection measures? We will elaborate from the following points.
1: Installation problem
We know that the premise of communication between wireless video transmission devices is that two or more devices can communicate with each other. Then the equipment needs to be installed in a higher position outside. We know that if the electronic equipment is installed outdoors, it is necessary to do all kinds of lightning protection measures and grounding.
2: Line problem
The wireless device uses POE power supply, that is, data and power are loaded on the twisted pair cable for simultaneous data transmission. Data is transmitted in 1, 2, 3, and 6. 4, 5 power supply positive, 7, 8 power supply negative. Some customers install wireless devices with high location and long distances through the network cable. In the thunderstorm, the surge and inductive lightning will enter the equipment circuit along with the line. Causes damage to electronic components, reduced sensitivity, and reduced service life.
3: Direct lightning
Direct lightning is a series of destructive effects such as the rapid discharge between the charged cloud layer (Thundercloud) and buildings, other objects, the earth or lightning protection devices, and the electrical, thermal or mechanical forces that accompany it. If the device is subjected to such a lightning strike, the device will suffer an incalculable loss.
4: Static electricity
Electrostatic is a kind of charge that is at rest or a charge that does not flow (the flowing charge forms a current). When the electric charge accumulates on an object or surface, static electricity is formed, and the electric charge is divided into two types: positive electric quantity and negative electric quantity. That is to say, the electrostatic phenomenon is also divided into two types, namely, positive static electricity and negative static electricity. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable in the less north or northwest direction of the dry. A: Installation
Before the installation in the early stage, you should choose the installation location. According to the building requirements, buildings with a height of more than 20 meters or heavy machinery, tower cranes, etc. need to be equipped with lightning rods. The lightning receptors are generally φ16mm round steel with a length of 1~2 meters. The car should be made into a cone tip. The lightning receptor needs to be hot-dip galvanized. When we install the equipment on these objects, install the equipment within 45° of the effective protection angle of the lightning rod. Because the effective protection range of the lightning rod is below 45° of the top of the lightning rod, it can effectively avoid damage caused by direct lightning.
B: POE module lightning protection
The wireless bridge utilizes the POE power supply technology, and the twisted pair transmits data and power at the same time. We recommend professional POE lightning protection technology. The POE lightning protection device can effectively protect the data port and power port of the device from being damaged by surge, inductive lightning and static electricity. However, the POE lightning protection module must be well grounded and the grounding resistance must be less than 4 ohms. If the requirements are not met, the grounding electrode should be added. If the conditions are not good, the electrolyte should be added and/or the soil should be replaced.
The author has seen several customer problems that I experienced personally. In fact, the customers have responded to POE lightning protection measures, but the equipment is affected by surges and other equipment during the spring season. Later, after careful inquiry and understanding, although the POE lightning protection equipment was installed, all the POE modules of the damaged equipment did not carry out any grounding measures. The equipment that has been effectively grounded is no different. Therefore, the POE lightning protection module cannot be effectively grounded or grounded at all. Then lightning protection will not play any role.
