Wärtsilä will provide engine and propulsion system maintenance services for PGS' eight seismic vessels
Recently, Wärtsilä and PGS Geophysical have signed a service agreement, and Wärtsilä will become the priority service provider for the latter fleet of engines and other Wärtsilä equipment.
Under the service agreement, Wärtsilä will provide maintenance services for the engines and propulsion systems of PGS Geophysical's eight seismic vessels to ensure the longest operating hours and safety and economics. It is reported that the seismic ship of PGS Geophysical Company mainly provides seabed mapping and analysis operations for the exploitation of global oil and gas resources.
The service agreement was signed in December 2016 for a period of three years and also includes a priority for another two-year service period.
In the early stages of the contract, Wärtsilä will optimize and maintain the operations of the engines and propulsion systems of these seismic vessels, enabling them to optimize operating costs over the life cycle. Four of these ships will also be connected to the Wärtsilä State-Based Maintenance Program (CBM), which is designed to balance safe operation and optimize engine performance to extend engine overhaul intervals. After the connection, the system can automatically transfer the data on board to the solution center for online monitoring and problem solving. After data analysis, Wärtsilä will provide recommendations for optimizing operating parameters and pre-maintenance.
In the second phase of the contract, Wärtsilä and PGS will study how PGS can use Wärtsilä's digital solutions to further ensure time-consuming operations at sea, minimizing risks and costs.
It is reported that PGS Geophysical Company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway. It is a multinational company that provides 3D images of the seabed, including acquisition, imaging, interpretation and on-site assessment, for oil companies to discover the oil and gas resources.
