As the European Union will implement the European emission standard 6 next January, various manufacturers are also making final preparations. At present, Europe's major brands of the European 6 product series have been formed, but the special car modified with the Euro 6 emission chassis is still a minority. Recently, the German MAN presented two fire trucks modified with Euro 6 emission TGM chassis. The tops were from Germany's Magna and Austria's Luxia.
The chassis used by the Luxembourg-based company is the TGM18.3404x4 four-wheel drive chassis, while the Signalor chassis uses the TGM13.2904x4 chassis, both of which are urban main fire engines. MAN related staff said that MAN's emergency vehicle chassis exhaust emissions standards provided worldwide cover from Euro 3 to Euro 6. The low-emission Euro 6 truck chassis is also a new challenge for top-loading manufacturers due to the stricter technical requirements. They must take into account that the required components occupy a larger volume, such as exhaust gas treatment tanks and urea tanks.
The complexity of fire trucks is much higher than that of common special vehicles. MAN and top-loading manufacturers have jointly participated in the research and development of the production of Euro 6 emission fire trucks to solve a series of problems that are different from ordinary special vehicle chassis modifications.
The emission standards of the engine have been improved and the gearbox has been optimized. The new TGM Euro 6 engine chassis is equipped with a TipMatic automatic transmission, which was introduced on the Euro 5 TGM fire engine chassis. To accommodate the fast-paced combat needs of fire engines, gearboxes provide faster acceleration and special downshifts. In 2014, some countries such as Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom may obtain an exemption certificate and may still be able to purchase Euro 5-emitted emergency rescue vehicles.
