The Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has made new progress in the field of pressure sensors
[ China Instrument Network Instrument Development ] Recently, the Photonics Information and Energy Materials Research Center of the Institute of Advanced Technology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has made new progress in the field of pressure sensors. The results are based on Touchpoint-tailored ultra-sensitive piezoresistive pressure sensors with a broad dynamic response. The range and low detection limit is published in the journal ACS Applied materials & interfaces. The first author of the thesis is Chen Ming, associate researcher of Shenzhen Advanced Institute. The author of the communication is Li Wenjie, Zhong Guohua, and researcher Yang Chunlei.

Flexible wearable pressure sensors are widely used in electronic skin, medical monitoring, intelligent robots, etc. A perfect wearable pressure sensor should have a sensing system with high sensitivity, large range and low detection limit. However, conventional pressure sensors cannot currently meet these requirements at the same time. In this regard, Yang Chunlei's research group used a contact polyimide modulation technology to fabricate a high-performance flexible wearable pressure sensor using a flexible polyimide film/rough fork electrode/polydimethylsiloxane film microstructure. It can reach 259.32 kPa-1 in the range of 0-2.5 kPa, the maximum measuring range is 54 kPa, and the response time is about 200 μs. In terms of health monitoring, the pressure sensor can monitor the pulse of the human body; in the aspect of intelligent robot, the pressure sensor/robot system prepared by the research group can sense the slight external pressure and make rapid motion reflection.
This achievement provides an effective technical solution for the preparation of high-performance pressure sensors, and is expected to promote the practical application of pressure sensors in biomedical, health monitoring and artificial intelligence.
The research is currently supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Shenzhen Basic Research Project.
