Greek Textile Industry Rejuvenates Quickly

The Greek Textile Industry Association (SEVK) confirmed that the textile industry has shown signs of rapid revitalization, which is based on statistics from the Eurostat statistics organization.

At a recent meeting, the Greek Textile Industry Association stated that all sectoral indices have increased from the previous year. In 2009, the output of textile products fell by 20% from 2008. This year, there was an increase of 8.3% year-on-year.

Similarly, the volume of trade this year has also risen. It has risen by 7.1% so far, and it has dropped by 18% last year.

This increase was mainly attributable to the large-scale purchases by EU buyers. A few years ago, EU buyers abandoned the Greek textile industry and turned to third countries to import their products.

Orders for this year have risen by 10%, and dropped by 17% in 2009. In addition, exports during the same period rose by 10-12%.
