[China Instrument Network Instrument R&D] Recently, research fellows Lu Jiancheng and Yu Xuefeng of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology in China and Professor Bang Xianfeng of Bangor University in the United Kingdom have successfully developed the first optical fiber chemical sensor based on black phosphorus to realize heavy metal ions. Ultra-sensitive detection.

Tilted fiber grating is a new type of fiber optic device. The large angle tilted grating structure can couple the core optical mode forward to the fiber cladding, forming a series of discrete resonance peaks at a specific wavelength. The coupling of light will follow the outside world. Changes in the refractive index of the medium and other changes. Therefore, tilted fiber gratings are ideal photonic devices for sensing applications. Black phosphorus is a two-dimensional semiconductor material with direct band gap that has attracted wide attention in recent years. It has a unique two-dimensional planar structure, an ultra-high specific surface area, numerous active sites, and a broad spectral response range from visible to infrared. , In the optical detection shows a huge application prospects.
In this study, the research team combined for the first time the combination of black phosphorus and tilted fiber gratings, revealing the unique optical modulation effect of the black phosphorus nano-layers. With the unique optical structure of tilted gratings, a novel ultra-sensitive chemical sensor was constructed. In this study, an in-situ layering modification technique was developed to efficiently attach the black phosphor nanoplates to the surface of the optical fiber devices. Different thicknesses of the black phosphor nanolayers exhibit unique modulation of the optical signals. Using this feature, the black phosphorus fiber sensor can detect heavy metal lead ions at the sub-ppb concentration level, with ultra-high sensitivity, ultra-low detection limit, and a broad range of concentration detection. The successful development of a new black-phosphor fiber sensor will provide a superior optical detection platform for chemical and biological sensing, thereby promoting the application of black phosphorus chemical biosensors.
