Continental Launches First Automotive Aluminum Turbocharger

Recently, Continental Group announced that it has made new progress in R&D of turbocharged products. The world’s first aluminum turbocharger for vehicles has been mass-produced.

It is understood that in the first half of this year, the turbocharger has been introduced into the MINI Hatch's three-cylinder gasoline engine.

Wolfgang Breuer, head of the engine system business unit of the Continental Group Powertrain Systems Division, said: “Aluminum turbochargers are a milestone. This lightweight material product is nearly 30% lighter than traditional products and also reduces costs.”

According to Udo Schwerdel, head of the company's turbocharger product line, this product breaks the stereotype of traditional turbocharger as an additional component of the engine and integrates with the engine. In product design, not only has the turbocharger itself been completed, but it has also successfully integrated the product into the engine head.
